Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine

Anna Marie Schumitta is a native of Wake Forest , NC who received her undergraduate education at East Carolina University , graduating Summa Cum Laude with Foundation Curriculum Honors, earning a Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology. She was also named the Outstanding Student in Exercise Physiology. 

Anna Marie also completed her medical education at East Carolina University , participating in the Early Assurance Admission program.  She completed clinical affiliations with Aquatic Physical Therapy and Wake Forest Physical Therapy.  She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and obtained her North Carolina Board certification in 2009.  Her graduate research assessed the number and types of injuries in runners and whether this is affected by foot arch height and mobility.

While at ECU, Anna Marie was Intramural Sports Coordinator for the ECU PT club.  She was also involved in the community with the ECU Rotaract Club, the ECU Baptist Campus Ministry and the ECU Honor’s program.  She began her active participation in the American Physical Therapy Association during her stay at ECU as well.
